Red Planet Fourth planet from our star, an ocher-red disk, devoid of trees, marked with dark blotches from afar, erroneously named the Maria (seas). Distinctive Martian polar caps, frozen carbon dioxide and water ice, our scientists wonder if perhaps, there once was life in paradise. Observations from Viking show sharp straight lines, marked with canyons, volcanoes, and jumbled terrains. Cratered surface, plummeting of meteorite signs, a planet that's beaten and marked with pains. Finding it's surface, a desolate sight, sensational images of beauty untold. A wondrous feat of man's technological might, reaching for the stars - the brave and the bold. Perhaps this red planet, once a civilization had, intelligent, brilliant, artistic and sad. But whatever it's history, in mystery clad, it's brilliance and beauty above us I'm glad.
